Ways to Eliminate A Bothersome and Tender Canker Sore
On occasion, you are going to be surprised that something so tiny can have a major impact on your life. For instance, this is true with canker sores. Canker sores are small blisters that affect the oral cavity. They occur mainly on the lips, inside of the cheeks, on or under the tongue, and on the gums. Canker sores are usually yellow or white with red tissue on the outer edges. In most cases, these sores hurt and do not go away quickly, particularly if they are not treated correctly.
Small canker sores might resolve themselves with no treatment. Using some basic homeopathic treatments can cause canker sores to heal more quickly, and can alleviate the discomfort for a little while.
A great method of coping with canker sores is to avoid getting them in the first place, or to limit how often they appear. In order to accomplish this, you have to learn what makes them happen. A lot of sufferers believe that they have no known cause. However, this is not what I think. Personally, I have discovered that I typically get canker sores when my teeth hit the inner part of my lips. When this happens, and the lips are damaged by the teeth, the section becomes a bit painful, and will probably show a small rupture of the lining. If this is not taken care of immediately, a canker sore will appear, and you won’t be able to get rid of it for approximately 14 days.
So, for people who dislike uncomfortable canker sores, it is best to avoid getting them altogether. However, if you have damaged a portion of your oral cavity, you should put some antiseptic medicine on the wound right away in order to stave off infection and not allow it to turn into a canker sore.
Some homeopathic treatments for canker sores are sodium bicarbonate (rubbed onto the wound), saltwater or hydrogen peroxide solutions (gargled), or non-prescription rinsing agents to be taken orally. These remedies are intended to lower the amount of bacteria that develops in the oral cavity, alleviate discomfort, and reduce the time needed to heal. You should never swallow any of these remedies. Make sure you only use them to rinse your mouth, then spit them into the sink.
If you suffer a serious canker sore, you should visit your dentist to learn what you should do. A serious canker sore will be larger and consist of several blisters that hurt more than usual, and does not heal quickly. Certain prescription antibiotics or steroids will help treat these sores.
Even if you feel that your canker sore is not severe, it is still suggested that you consult your dentist just to make sure.
